OM2 Bend-Insensitive Multimode Fiber Buyer Guide
OM2 50/125 μm multimode fiber is selected for short-reach LAN, building backbone, industrial and premises-network applications. Bend-insensitive construction is useful in compact cable routes where installation handling and routing space are important.
Information to Include in Your RFQ
- OM2 grade, operating wavelength and bend requirement
- Data rate, transceiver and required link distance
- Fiber/cable construction, connector and test standard
- Order length, packaging, quantity and destination
Frequently Asked Questions
When should I choose OM2 instead of OM3 or OM4?
OM2 is suitable for cost-sensitive short-reach systems and existing OM2 networks. Newer high-speed links should also evaluate laser-optimized OM3 or OM4 according to the network standard.
What does bend-insensitive OM2 mean?
It is designed to reduce additional loss caused by tighter routing compared with conventional multimode fiber. The actual minimum bend radius must still follow the fiber and cable specification.
Which system details determine supported distance?
Data rate, wavelength, transceiver, connector loss and total link budget determine supported reach. Include these items in the RFQ.
