900 µm ETFE Fiber Protection Tube
A 900 µm ETFE fiber protection tube is a fluoropolymer tube designed to protect 250 µm optical fiber. The reference design has a 500 ± 50 µm inner diameter, a 900 ± 50 µm outer diameter and a listed operating range of -40 to +150°C.
Opticlumos supplies ETFE fiber tubing for engineers specifying protective components in custom optical cable assemblies. This product is a protection tube, not a complete jacketed cable or a temperature-sensing system. Fiber coating, termination and assembly limits must be evaluated separately.

Compact protective geometry
A nominal 0.5 mm bore inside a 0.9 mm outside diameter provides space for the specified 250 µm fiber. Confirm the fiber loading method and dimensional tolerances.
ETFE fluoropolymer material
Ethylene tetrafluoroethylene copolymer provides heat-resistant, electrically insulating protection. Material selection must be checked against the complete service environment.
Temperature-specific selection
The catalog lists -40 to +150°C operation, -40 to +70°C storage and -20 to +50°C installation. These are different limits, not interchangeable ratings.
Custom dimensions and identification
Other diameters, colors and delivery lengths can be reviewed against your drawing and order requirements.

Reference values apply to the catalog protection-tube design. The melting point is not a continuous operating rating. The catalog also lists UL94 V-0 and RoHS material information; request supporting documentation for your selected material and order. This does not establish a fire rating or certification for a finished cable assembly. Final specifications and acceptance criteria are subject to order confirmation.
Applications & Selection
- Protection of 250 µm fiber within a custom optical assembly
- High-temperature fiber-routing designs subject to assembly qualification
- Compact optical device leads requiring electrical insulation
Information to Include in Your RFQ
Specify the fiber coating and diameter, tube bore and outside diameter, continuous and peak temperatures, exposure duration, installation temperature, length and color. Confirm chemical exposure, bending, shrinkage and the requirements of connectors or adhesives. Do not apply the tube’s 150°C limit automatically to the enclosed fiber or finished assembly.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is this a 900 µm optical fiber or an empty protection tube?
It is an ETFE protection tube with a nominal 900 µm outside diameter and 500 µm bore, intended to protect 250 µm optical fiber. Confirm whether your quotation requires tubing alone or a fiber-loaded assembly.
Does the +220 to +255°C melting point mean continuous operation at 220°C?
No. The catalog operating range is -40 to +150°C. The melting point describes a material property and must not be used as the operating limit.
Is this a DTS sensing cable?
No. It is a protective component. A distributed temperature sensing cable also requires a suitable optical fiber, cable construction, compatible interrogator and system-level qualification.
Can the tube be customized?
Other diameter specifications, colors and lengths can be reviewed. Send the required bore, outside diameter, tolerances, fiber type, environment and quantity for confirmation.
